Privacy Policy

The policies setting out how Surrey Underpinning handles your details and what happens to the information you send through the site.

Surrey Underpinning owns and manages surreyunderpinning.co.uk. Homeowners and landlords around Surrey use the site to raise concerns about foundation movement and to ask whether underpinning may be needed. Surrey Underpinning is the controller for any personal information that arrives through it. This notice explains what gets recorded, why, where it goes afterwards, how long it stays, and the say you have over it.

Nothing is gathered about you in the background. Everything we hold comes from the enquiry box you complete. Typically that means your name, a contact number or email, the property's address or postcode, and a few lines describing the symptoms. These might be hairline gaps above doorframes, a leaning garden wall or floors that have started to slope. Uploading pictures is entirely up to you. Submissions are handled by Basin, a form service that delivers each one to our inbox. We never request bank details, passwords or health information, so please leave anything like that out.

We read each submission to understand the structural concern. We then forward it to the specialist firm that carries out subsidence investigation and underpinning in your part of the county. That firm will phone or email you itself to talk through a survey, likely costs and timing. Once the firm has your details, it answers for how it handles them under its own privacy arrangements. Your information is never sold, rented or traded to marketers or list brokers, and we do not use it for promotional mailings.

UK data protection law requires a legal reason for handling personal data. Ours is legitimate interests. When someone asks for help with a cracking or shifting building, it is reasonable to pass that message to a firm able to respond. Any photographs or optional notes you attach are handled on the same basis and only for that purpose.

Enquiry emails and their attachments are kept for up to twelve months. This lets follow-up questions about the same property be matched up, and after that they are deleted. If you ask us to erase your message sooner, we will. Copies held by the specialist firm fall under that firm's own retention schedule.

The UK GDPR gives you several powers over your personal data. You may request a copy of whatever we hold about you and have anything inaccurate put right. You can also ask for your details to be erased, raise an objection to us processing them, or ask that we limit what is done with them while a concern is looked into. We aim to reply within one month. If you are unhappy with our response, the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk accepts complaints.

This site does not set advertising or tracking cookies. The hosting service may rely on small technical files that let pages load securely, and these hold nothing that identifies you. If that ever changes, this notice will be amended and a consent banner added beforehand.

You may have a query about this notice or want to use one of the rights listed above. If so, send a message through the enquiry form on this website and mention privacy in your note so it can be picked out and dealt with promptly.
